Peace On Earth, Goodwill Toward Women And Children Living In Danger

December 17, 2015 - Updated: January 11, 2016

Peace On Earth, Goodwill Toward Women And Children Living In Danger

My favourite part of the holidays is the serenity of the candlelight service at our local church on Christmas Eve, accompanied by the singing of Silent Night. It is, to me, five minutes of pure, peaceful, bliss, out of 525,600 otherwise busy and sometimes chaotic minutes, in any given year. These few perfect moments are made even more meaningful by the fact that I have the good fortune to live in Canada, with its many privileges and virtues, including: peace, compassion, inclusion, generosity and, of course, hockey. :)

Blessed, as I am, I have never experienced the fear and threat of violence that far too many, living among us live, live with every day. I’m referring to the women and children, living in our communities, for whom the spectre of domestic violence is a very real and imminent danger; people like Rose and Margie.

The statistics are alarming:

  • Violence against women happens in all cultures and religions, in all ethnic and racial communities, at every age, and in every income group*
  • On any given day in Canada, 3000 women (and their 2500 children) are living in an emergency shelter to escape family violence*
  • Every year in Canada, an estimated 360,000 children witness family violence*

Like you, I wish for something much better for all women and children living in peril. I want them to know there is safe haven somewhere nearby. And I want them to have something most of us enjoy and rarely think about: the secure feeling of peace in our lives.

Won't you please join me, this holiday season, in helping to restore hope for Canadian women and children fleeing violence in the home? Visit: Royal LePage Shelter Foundation to Donate and Find out More.

Royal LePage Shelter Foundation is Canada’s largest public foundation dedicated exclusively to funding women’s shelters and violence prevention programs. Every dollar raised goes directly to helping the more than 30,000 women and children who are served each year by the 200 local women’s shelters and national partners that the foundation funds.† And all administrative costs are paid for by Royal LePage.††

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Wishing You and Yours a Very Safe and Happy Holiday Season!

 With kind regards,

 Rod Young
